BIFF Special Presentation: Detroit

Directed by award-winner Kathryn Bigelow, Detroit was released to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Algiers Motel Incident from July 1967, where three teenagers, all of them black, were tortured and killed by police during the racially charged 12th Street Riot. Lasting five days, it was one of the deadliest and destructive in the history of the US with over a thousand injured and more than 40 deaths.  The 12th Street riots took place in an area which is now Rosa Parks Boulevard.
